Problem

Cocktail dresses are not my thing.  They're too shiny for my liking.  When I was told that our New Years Eve's gig was to be performed in cocktail dress and tuxedo attire I kind of flipped out.  I spent all day looking for the right outfit.  Anthropologie saved the day, I love that store, I love it more at 75% off.  Found me a beautiful long red chiffon skirt and green silk top, totally my style but perhaps not your average cocktail attire.  May not be the typical cocktail outfit, but I feel pretty wearing it, that's all that matters to me.

The problem is, my voice is gone.  I've been ill for about 2 weeks now and my voice is comparable to a baby seal's.  I don't know what to do.  I've been trying everything from a vow of silence, steam facials and breathing that crap in, tea with honey, cough suppressants, cough drops, to the most disguting thing I have ever had...Broncolin.

We went to a street taco stand last night and the cook recommended this syrup.  I always trust Mexicans and their natural medicine ways.  I can say this little guy works, but I should have started taking it maybe 4 days ago instead of just last night.  But let me tell you, it's the most disgusting thing I've ever had.  Poor husband watched me take it and I think he almost threw up just watching me want to throw up.

Freaking out!  I have 7 songs to perform in front of at least a hundred people tomorrow, I don't know what else to do.

Listening to: The sound of a pot of boiling water for another steam breathing moment.

I do hope your voice returns in time. Over here we have Covonia cough medicine, which tastes like a mixture of cold tar soap and earwax. It's so vile, you can't help but believe it must be doing some good. Try gargling with warm salty water - I think it's supposed to neutralise the bacteria in your throat that causes the infection. It is also quite soothhing.

Your outfit sounds lovely. It's far better that you wear something you feel great in, than stick rigidly to a dress code that just isn't your thing.

Have a wonderful night!

You will be superb and your outfit sounds lovely. Don't forget you can always carry off any cocktail party with a little black dress and from your photo I'd bet you would be smashing in one.

A fellow I knew who was a great funk singer always drank hot tea and honey between sets. He swore by it.

Have a great 2012!!

I hope you get your voice back soon (and in time) and that the night is fantastic.
